Announcing our closing keynote speaker – Esra’a Al Shafei!

MideastYouth.orgWe’ve been holding off making announcements about this year’s WordCamp Birmingham for several reasons – most notably because we were waiting for confirmation on our closing keynote speaker on Saturday – Esra’a Al Shafei, founder and executive director of MideastYouth.com!

Esra’a had planned to be in Birmingham last month during the successful inaugural Social South conference but was unable to appear in person. Instead, her moving presentation via Skype has been considered by many people to be the highlight of that event.

MideastYouth.com is a successful website built using WordPress as a content management system and she’ll be able to talk with those in attendance about her experiences and just how powerful the tools have been for her and her contributors.

We’re grateful to a local blogger The Microfit Group, who volunteered to pay for Esra’a's airfare up front so that she can attend. We will be raising funds to reimburse them and are extremely grateful for their generosity repay the blogger. Please to find out more information about how you can help or note that you want your sponsorship funds to go towards this goal.

So if you haven’t registered yet, you may want to do so soon, if not to be there for what will no doubt be a powerful presentation but because space is starting to go fast…

Looking forward to seeing you there!

  1. This is wonderful!

I saw her speak at Social South last month, and now I finally get to shake her hand.

Folks, this alone will be worth attending.

  2. Will there be video/audio/transcript of this somewhere?

  3. We are hoping to finally post some of the audio from her closing keynote in the next 2-3 weeks. I’m sorry that we haven’t been able to do it sooner…
